Chennai braced for Cyclone Jal
Cyclone Jal heads towards Chennai
The Indian city of Chennai is braced for a severe cyclonic storm which is due to make landfall late on Sunday.
Cyclone Jal will bring wind gusts of 85mph and is expected to produce 100mm of rain in 12 hours. The storm is expected to make landfall at around 18:00 GMT before quickly weakening and continuing inland in a north-westerly direction.
Large parts of south-east India are experiencing rainfall associated with the storm, with areas near the centre of the system likely to receive 200-250mm over the next 24 hours as the storm pushes through.
