Hurricane Alex tracks toward the Texas - Mexico coast
Hurricane Alex tracks toward the Mexican Texas boarder
Texas declares a state of emergency ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Alex.
The hurricane has disrupted the oil spill clean up operation off the coast of Louisiana. Strong winds and waves of more than seven feet forced the suspension of oil skimming and booming operations. The heavy seas has driven part of the oil closer to the sensitive Louisiana coastline.
Oil and gas rigs further west, in the path of the hurricane, have been evacuated.
Hurricane Alex is expected to make landfall as a potentially category two storm around midnight local time, bringing up to 20 inches of rain over the mountains of Mexico.
