A road at Holsworthy was impassable to cars after heavy rain on Tuesday night A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office in Devon for heavy rain which could lead to flooding in some areas.

The Met Office said that up to 20mm of rain could fall across the county with some areas expected to get up to 40mm.

The rain is expected to fall during Friday evening and Saturday morning.

In a statement the Met Office said: "This may lead to localised flooding, particularly where the ground is already saturated."

The statement continued: "The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the latest Environment Agency, Floodline, and Flood Warnings in force."

The Met Office said that such weather warnings were only issued if there was an 80% or greater likelihood that the weather would hit within the next few hours.
