Severe weather hits Texas
High winds, rain and hail pounded North Texas as another round of severe storms moved through on Wednesday. Severe storms with hail stones the size of a cricket ball and winds of 70 mph caused damage to buildings and uprooted trees and power lines.
Motorists travelling on Interstate 20, south of Gordon (Palo Pinto County), struggled through thunderstorms with battering winds and extra large hail. Squally winds from another thunderstorm blew down barns in Covington, and in Stephenville several cars were stuck in high water.
As the storms moved east, at least one tornado was reported in Erath County, about 60 miles southwest of Fort Worth. The threat of tornadoes began to die down as the storms passed Dallas and Tarrant counties. However flash flood warnings were still in effect in these counties.
The National Weather Service in Forth Worth said a disturbance, which was over Northern Mexico and Western Texas on Wednesday morning, provided the lift to trigger thunderstorms across north Texas later in the day.
Another storm system is expected to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms across parts of Texas tonight and on Friday.
