Perth set for wettest April on record
Perth, Western Australia, has experienced more than its fair share of rain this month. With only a week to go until the end of April, just 3.6mm (0.14 inches) more rain will give the city its wettest April on record.
Rainfall overnight added a further 6mm (0.24 inches) to this month’s running total, making it 145.4mm (5.72 inches) so far. This is more than 3 times Perth’s average April rainfall of 43mm (1.69 inches). The current record rainfall for April is 148.8mm (5.86 inches), set in 1926.
Last nights rain resulted from a cold front lying off the south coast, with some fine weather forecast for the next few days.
However, just to the northwest of Western Australia, Christmas Island has been lashed by Tropical Cyclone Rosie. Forecasters expect Rosie to move south over the next few days bringing further rain to Perth by Sunday. It looks like the weekend rain should be enough to push April 2008 into the record books.
