Heavy snow causes chaos in northern Europe

Heavy snow and low temperatures have caused a number of deaths in north west Europe this week.

Eight homeless men died in Poland as the temperature dropped to -26C (-15F) on Tuesday night, while five others died in central Europe and two in the UK.

There was major travel disruption as airports in France, Switzerland and the UK closed. German officials say there were two thousand road accidents during Tuesday.

Cold air moving down from Siberia has contributed to the wintry conditions in northern Europe. Temperatures are an average 5C - 10C below average in some major cities.
