Record temperature for Beijing
Temperature readings in the Chinese capital reached 31.9°C yesterday—the warmest 3 May in 40 years, according to the China Meteorological Administration. It was caused by the occurrence of a mass of warm air, coupled with still conditions.
Some 1 000 firefighters have been mobilized to tackle a fire in a nature reserve west of the capital.
The winter of 2006/2007 was the warmest on record in Beijing.
