Mississippi Valley to Northeast under cold front


Forecasters predicted thunderstorms in the lower Mississippi Valley, rain in New England and snow in the Rocky Mountains on Thursday.
A system moving from the southern Plains to the Mississippi Valley was expected to bring thunderstorms, with the most severe weather in the lower Mississippi Valley.
Lighter rain was expected from the Southeast to eastern Texas, but heavier downpours were on tap for the Tennessee and Ohio valleys.
A cold front stretching from the upper Mississippi Valley to the Northeast was expected to bring moderate rain, with heavier precipitation in New England.
Rain showers were expected in the Northwest, and snow was expected in the northern Rocky Mountains.
High temperatures around the country will range from the 40s and 50s in the northern Plains, Midwest and Northwest to the 70s and 80s in the Southeast and in California.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 2 degrees at Laramie, Wyoming, to a high of 95 degrees at Laredo, Texas.
