Huge thunderstorms to hit Great Plains
Huge storms are common at this time of year in the Great Plains
Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the US Great Plains over the Easter weekend.
Alerts for heavy rain, hail up to 2 inches in diameter and wind gusts up to 70mph have been issued for much of central Kansas and Nebraska as well as Texas and Oklahoma. The powerful storms could also spawn tornadoes.
Increased frequency of clashing warm and cold air masses mean that April is usually an active month for tornadoes in the area. Tornadoes develop near the boundary between the upcurrents and the downdraughts in a storm cloud and can be very destructive.
