Hurricane Bill weakened to a category two hurricane
Hurricane Bill, the first Atlantic Hurricane of the season, has brought heavy rain and strong winds to Bermuda. It caused flooding and power cuts to Bermuda but there were no casualties.
Passing between Bermuda and the east coast of the USA, Bill did not hit the island directly and a previous hurricane watch was downgraded to a tropical storm watch. A tropical storm watch has also been issued on the coast of Massachusetts.
Bill has weakened to a category two hurricane, the second weakest on the Saffir-Simpson scale, packing winds of 105 mph with higher gusts. The storm is expected to bring large swells to the east coast of the US and Atlantic maritime areas of Canada over the next two days.
After weakening considerably over colder waters, remnants of the storm are expected to bring wet, windy and humid conditions to northern and western parts of the UK later next week.
