Situation in hospitals in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul capital, in southern Brazil) worsen as health conditions deteriorate due to excessive heat and dry and polluted air. All surgeries cancelled for the next 48hrs as hospitals in the city are overcrowded.

In Bolivia, 9.000 new fire spots only this week, totaling 34.000 now. TWO MILLION hectares already affected.

In Brazil, 13.000 new fire spots only in the last weekend.
Lots of nature reserves are being destroyed.

Even in the southern region where winters are usually colder, temperatures reached more than 35ºC yesterday and umidity levels went below 20% (very rare here). Fire men are fighting many spots of forest fires in the metropolitan region of Curitiba (capital of Parana), where temperature is around 29ºC and umidity below 20% (temp more than 9ºC above the normal maximum).

Just for the record: Most meteorological centers here are predicting temperatures above 42ºC (110ºF) for the country’s central region, where most of the fires are located. Significant rain only for mid September in the best case scenario.
Relative umidity, that is at this moment below 15%, a level already harmful for health, is expected to go below 10% in 3 or 4 days.
