More storms and tornadoes for USA
Thunderstorms dropped close to an inch and a half of rain on Lubbock (Texas) Monday night, and severe weather returned on Tuesday evening, bringing reports of large hail and high winds as the storms moved northwards across the region. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning also rolled across Dallas on Tuesday and much the same is forecast for Wednesday.
Indeed heavy storms are predicted for Wednesday across large areas of the US as two separate storm systems move through the Plains and then the northern Plains. The very warm air over southern states will move north to meet much colder air further north. By Wednesday evening there is potential for tornadoes over Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas which have already experienced several tornadoes. Meteorologists have confirmed 11 tornadoes hit Arkansas late last week. One of them packed winds of up to 165 mph and made contact with the ground for 45 miles. People were killed and hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed.
According to Severe Weather Expert Henry Margusity, the number of tornadoes so far this year is well above normal. There have been 694 tornadoes this year, a number that is not normally reached until early July.
