(AP) -- A wide band of severe thunderstorms pounded the mid-Mississippi region and Ohio Valley on Tuesday.
Severe weather also struck southern Oklahoma and parts of Texas, where there were numerous reports of hail.
A new low pressure system brought rain to an area extending from the southern Plains and lower Mississippi northeast through the Ohio and Tennessee valleys and into the Great Lakes region.
Farther west, a cold front associated with a storm system over central Canada progressed eastward through the northern Rockies and northern Plains.
Parts of the Southwest received isolated rain showers. It also rained in much of New England.
Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a midday low of 22 degrees in Stanley, Idaho, to a midday high of 101 degrees in Wink, Texas.
