Thunderstorm closes Billund Airport
Wednesday, 18 August 2010 13:47 ALF News .Over 100mm of rain and several lightning strikes shuts down operations

Billund Airport was forced to close earlier today, following an especially heavy cloudburst.

Some 111mm of rain and several lightning strikes caused chaos at the Jutland airport, which at 9.45 this morning was forced to close down operations for 45 minutes.

The rain caused flooding on the landing strip and a number of lightning strikes, including one that hit the control tower, disabled the airport’s electricity supply and meant that the landing strip lights and security systems shut down.

The airport has reopened, but a statement from the airport states that not all systems are fully functional yet. Passengersdue to fly from the airport are being to told to check in as normal, though.
