discred Firefighters from several departments late Monday night were at the scene of a fire at an ethanol plant, according to preliminary reports. State troopers blocked off highways leading to the POET Biorefining facility in Chancellor, about 20 miles southwest of Sioux Falls.
Details about the blaze were not immediately available late Monday evening. The plant, built in 2003 and expanded in 2008, employs about 60 people, according to POET’s website. The 2008 expansion boosted its annual production to 100 million gallons of ethanol and 56,000 tons of dried distillers grains with solubles. That amounts to the highest production of the 26 POET plants.
