Engineers in Surrey are hoping to reconnect 150 homes which have been without power for three days.

Southern Electric said engineers were working to restore power but were having difficulty travelling to rural parts of the county.

The areas affected include Godalming, Farnham, Frimley Green, Deepcut and Wormley.

EDF Energy said the majority of their customers now had full power and the rest should be restored by Saturday.

Nearly 400 schools in the county remained closed for a third successive day because of the weather.

Gritting roads

Surrey County Council is only salting A roads and routes to hospitals with accident and emergency departments in an effort to conserve stocks.

The council said it had less salt than was desirable and a national shortage meant deliveries were not guaranteed.

Side roads and pavements remained treacherous and police advised drivers not to travel unless it was essential.

Airline EasyJet suspended some flights on Friday from Gatwick and British Airways also had to cancel some services.

On the railways, Southern and South West Trains are preparing to provide a full weekend service, but will re-assess those plans each day.

Chessington Zoo will be closed over the weekend to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

The main theme park is closed for the winter, but the zoo is scheduled to open only for weekends and holidays until 14 March.

Surrey Police had to rescue a woman who had fallen into a frozen ditch after walking her dog in heavy snow near Hersham Golf Course.
