Hevige sneeuwval zorgt voor problemen Engeland ( bbc)

Major snow blocked route reopens

A major route linking Cumbria with the A1 has now reopened after being shut over the weekend due to heavy snow.

The A66 was closed in both directions between the A685 and Scotch Corner from early Saturday afternoon.

Severe weather warnings have also been lifted in Teesside, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and County Durham.

However, police are still advising people to take extra care as motorists across northern England continue to face difficult driving conditions.

Northumbria Police said roads in Sunderland and Washington remained passable despite 6cm (2.3in) of snow falling on Sunday.

All major roads in Northumberland remained open but freezing temperatures and snow has created treacherous conditions.

Several roads in Cumbria remained closed due to snow and ice, including the A592 Kirkstone Pass at Troutbeck, A6 Main Street in Shap and A689 at Alston.
