Twee hurricane,s in Atlantische oceaan ( bbc)

Two hurricanes in the Atlantic

Hurricane Igor continues tracking westwards, while Julia intensifies in strength

Dangerous Hurricane Igor continued to churn further west over the open waters of the Atlantic, with sustained winds of 135mph (215km/h).

Igor deepened rapidly during Sunday night and became a major Category 4 hurricane on Monday morning.

The National Hurricane Center expects Igor's strength to fluctuate somewhat over the next few days, but environmental conditions remain favourable for its major hurricane status to be maintained.

Igor's five-day forecast track suggests it is heading for Bermuda by Sunday, however it is still too early to say with any certainty whether the hurricane will have a significant impact on the British overseas territory.

Meanwhile, Julia became the fifth hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic season on Tuesday morning, as it strengthened into a Category 1 storm west of the Cape Verde islands.

Hurricane Julia currently has sustained winds of 75mph (120km/h) and is expected to strengthen further in the next few days, but is not forecast to affect any land areas before weakening back to tropical storm strength by the weekend.
