Haralson County High School Damaged, Students Sent Home
ATLANTA -- The most serious of Wednesday's storms have passed through metro Atlanta. The tornado watch for the area has been canceled.
Storm damage was reported Wednesday morning in Haralson County.
Students at Haralson County High School were sent home after storms damaged the school's main building, including the cafeteria. The Storm Prediction Center said a 50-foot section of the building collapsed. The center said two other buildings were also damaged.
Authorities said trees were knocked down and power is out across the county.
The StormTracker 46 forecast calls for more rain, with the possibility of brief and severe thunderstorms.
A front moving across the Southeast will push winds across the region that could reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of between 30 and 40 mph in the north Georgia mountains.
The National Weather Service said Wednesday that showers will develop in west Georgia and spread across north Georgia as the day continues. Heavy rain is expected to continue into the day on Thursday, before tapering off by late Thursday night.
