(CNN) -- The death toll from a typhoon in southern China now stands at 70, and several dozen people remain missing, the state-run Xinhua news agency said, citing relief officials.

More than a dozen bodies were found in the debris of mudslides in Guangdong Province, and 65 others are unaccounted for.

Typhoon Fanapi, the 11th and strongest typhoon to slam China this year, made landfall in Fujian Province on Monday but hit Guangdong the hardest.

The bodies were found after work crews entered communities cut off by mudslides. Bottled water, food and tents were distributed Friday.

Nearly 100,000 people in Guangdong have been evacuated, about 3,765 houses have collapsed, and 42,190 hectares (104,000 acres) of farmland were damaged, officials said.
