Large storm system aims at Great Lakes

A large storm system was pushing northeastward from the Tennessee Valley into the eastern Great Lakes early Thursday. Heavy rain clouds hung over the mid-Atlantic states and southern New England.
While the Plains states were expected to remain dry, cold air was predicted to spill into the region.
Freezing temperatures were possible in many Texas counties.
In the West, another Pacific frontal system was expected to move inland through the Great Basin and Northern Rockies, bringing rain to the region and snow in high elevations.
Portions of the Northwest, Northern Rockies, and Upper Midwest will only manage to rise into the 30s and 40s, while much of the Mississippi Valley will see temperatures in the 40s and 50s.
The Northeast could have highs in the 60s, while the Plains will rise into the 50s and 60s.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday ranged from a low of 6 degrees below zero at Gunnison, Colorado, to a high of 92 degrees at Riverside, California.
