story of the Year zero..

A film about Maya prophecies on the eve of global change

In December 2012, the period of the fourth sun will end and the fifth will start in the age-old Maya calendar. According to many Indian myths and prophecies, we are now on the eve of enormous events, that will herald a time of peace and harmony on earth after one of incredible turbulence.

Indian medicine men and women from North, Central and South America have meanwhile heeded the call of the Maya seer and prophet Wandering Wolf to come together and prepare rituals for the new age.
That happened for the second time in 1997, in the middle of the Amazon jungle in Colombia. These meetings signalled for Wandering Wolf the end of his life-long wandering, that took him to the all the Indian tribes in America, as he appealed to them to unite. Wiek Lenssen did not just film Wandering Wolf, but also another Guatemalan Maya healer and rainman Don Julian.

For the film The Year Zero, Lenssen looked up both shamans in their country, torn by dictatorship and violence. There they talk about their life, their work, the operation of the Maya calendar and the meaning of the Maya prophecies for humanity. A stunning documentary about an encounter on the even of great changes.
